Sports Direct: Valentine’s Day action is biggest yet

Unite campaigners hand in our petition of 20,000 signatures at Sports Direct’s head office.
Unite’s national day of action on Saturday 13 February was a great success, with local actions taking place in more than 30 cities. Union members and supporters across the country called on Sports Direct to end its shameful work practices.
Community and young activists delivered ‘We Love Sports Direct Workers’ Valentine cards to workers in shops – including Nottingham, Scunthorpe, Bristol, Northampton, Southampton and many other branches. In Liverpool, Burton and Newcastle they held up banners saying ‘It’s a workhouse, not a workplace’. In Mansfield and Derby they gave out Unite cakes. In Bridgwater a giant ‘walking heart’ handed out leaflets to the public. In Shirebrook everyone received a Valentine card.
Campaigners also teamed up with reps and activists to hand in Unite’s petition of more than 20,000 signatures at Sports Direct’s Shirebrook head office. Union pressure and powerful investigative journalism have brought Sports Direct’s practices to national attention. We can win this and make a real and lasting difference to Sports Direct workers’ lives.
