Success! River Island sign Safety Accord

Who's hanging their workers out to dry?

Thanks to your help, we’ve had our first success in persuading the 8 UK brands who are holding out against signing the Bangladesh Fire and Building Safety Accord. River Island have announced this afternoon that they’re going to join the Accord.

But whilst River Island have joined the majority of UK retailers and stepped up to their responsibilities, there are still 7 major brands with factories in Bangladesh who still refuse to sign.

That’s one down, 7 to go. We’re not giving up on Matalan, Bench, Bank Fashion, Peacocks, Jane Norman, Republic and Mexx.

If you didn’t write to the companies yet calling on them to do the right thing, please do. If you did write, please do again! And please ask your friends and colleagues to do the same. If everyone who already wrote to them recruited just one more person, we could pressure even more of them into joining the Accord.

Write to the 7 companies now!

PS – if you get the chance tonight (Monday 23 Sep), tune in to Panorama on BBC1 at 8.30pm for a report into safety and working conditions in the Bangladeshi garment industry.
